Whitehill & Bordon welcomed a special visitor last week when HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire was given a tour of the town.
The Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Nigel Atkinson, is HM The Queen’s personal representative in Hampshire and has a special interest in the development of sustainable communities.
Mr Atkinson met with Cllr Ferris Cowper, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Whitehill & Bordon, who explained the work being undertaken in the town.
His tour, on Tuesday 13 February, included some of the fantastic new facilities recently delivered in the town, including the BASE Bordon Innovation Centre, the Future Skills Centre, the Tech Forest and the new relief road.
He was also shown the site of the exciting new town centre with plans for new retail, leisure, entertainment and office buildings submitted to East Hampshire District Council.
The tour finished at Quebec Park to see the town’s Community Enterprise Hub at Chieftain House and some of the new high-quality homes built as part of the town’s regeneration.
Cllr Ferris Cowper, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Whitehill & Bordon, said: “I was thrilled to have the chance to show the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire around Whitehill & Bordon and show him some of the incredible progress we are making in this town.
“Whitehill & Bordon is being transformed into a green and healthy town with some 3,350 new homes, 5,500 jobs and nearly 100,000sqm of new commercial, retail and leisure floor space.
“We are very proud of what we have achieved here already and excited about what we will soon be able to deliver – and I think the Lord-Lieutenant was suitably impressed!”
The Lord-Lieutenant said: “I congratulate the development team and their partners on what has been achieved so far at Bordon and Whitehill.
“The development is very exciting and will be a huge asset to the county.”
