Whitehill & Bordon will be welcoming a Royal visitor later this month.
His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester is visiting the town on Thursday 26 March to see the progress being made in the town’s regeneration.
The Duke, The Queen’s cousin, will be welcomed by East Hampshire District Council and its partners for a special celebratory event.
Cllr Ferris Cowper, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Whitehill & Bordon, said: “A Royal visit to Whitehill & Bordon is incredibly exciting and is a real stamp of approval of what we are doing here.
“It is clear that people are sitting up and taking note of what is being achieved in Whitehill & Bordon as we transform the town from a military garrison into a green, healthy and connected town.
“The Duke of Gloucester is a former architect and I am excited to showcase the great strides we have made in developing the town to make it a great place to live and work.”
The regeneration of Whitehill & Bordon is a complex, £1 billion, multi-partner, 15-year commitment to deliver around 3,350 new homes, 5,500 jobs and create nearly 100,000sqm of new businesses space.
New community facilities will support the community through the transformation process which is expected to see the population increase from 14,000 to 22,000 by 2030.
The BASE Bordon Innovation Centre provides a perfect platform for up-and-coming businesses and the Future Skills Centre offers a range of vocational training courses in the construction sector.
Last year a new 4.1km relief road was completed, reducing traffic through the town, and a new secondary school building, Oakmoor School, was opened. Construction also begun on a new leisure centre.
Next on the list is a new town centre, with high-quality retail shops, entertainments, health facilities and a public service hub.
The whole development has been under-pinned with a clear focus on quality design and environmental performance and around 150 hectares of green space has been protected and enhanced through the provision of two SANGs (suitable alternative natural green-spaces) at Bordon Inclosure and Hogmoor Inclosure.
