A tranquil beauty spot to rest and play is being planned for a quiet corner of Whitehill & Bordon’s Green Loop.
An area of woodland in Bordon Inclosure is to be fitted out with seating and attractive landscaping to transform it into a hidden gem.
Called Quebec Terrace, and located on the former Quebec House gardens, the space will have wooden terraced seating allowing walkers to take in the view over the inclosure, tree planting will provide cover and shade and a specially designed log-stack will be perfect spot for wildlife to prosper.
Its design follows directly from consultation with local people and school children who called for places to discover and enjoy around the town. They have been dubbed Diamond Moments and it is hoped that more of these will be brought forward in future.
Funded by East Hampshire District Council and installed by the Urban Place Lab, Quebec Terrace will be maintained and managed by Whitehill Town Council. It is hoped the project will be ready in time for the summer.
Cllr Andy Tree, Leader of Whitehill Town Council, said:
“Another example of Whitehill Town Council making real differences in providing for residents by taking on the Quebec Terrace for the community. We hope it will be enjoyed.”
Cllr Phillip Davies, EHDC’s Assistant Portfolio Holder for Whitehill & Bordon, said:
“Quebec Terrace will be a little haven of peace and quiet in an otherwise busy world. It will be a lovely place where people can stop for a few minutes to enjoy the view or let their children clamber and explore.
“The Green Loop is a key part of the town’s regeneration, allowing people to navigate between facilities and open spaces, and little areas of interest like this will really add a sense of joy to the experience.”
Tina Spires, of Urban Place Lab, said:
“From the wayfinding engagement we undertook with schools in 2020, there was a strong current of wanting to see more destinations within Whitehill & Bordon – places to discover and explore.
“It is hoped that this ‘diamond moment’ – so named after one of the pupils at Bordon Junior School came up with the idea – will become another feature and part of Whitehill & Bordon’s fantastic natural environment, that encourages more people to explore the edge of the town by bike or on foot. Somewhere to pause and take in a great view.”
